May has been a sweeeet month for biking. Fantastic weather! I put on about 30 lbs in 2008 and starting occassional bike commuting & recreation in March & April this year. But Bike Month really got me going. I'm commuting almost every day and now taking longer routes just for the fun/workout. Folsom biking is incredible. Timed daytime traffic in Folsom. Regardless of how fast you drive between signals, you stop early and often and for a long time at every signal. Folsom doesn't know what signal synchronization is. On Saturdays when people are out shopping, I timed several trips (involving 8-10 mile round trips with several stops - typical shopping trip) at 8-10 mph average. I'm not too sure that I will commute by bike very often. Drivers in my area need to be educated about sharing the road. I've only had 1 safe commute trip this May. The other 11 trips included a close call or two. Cars don't stop at the stop bar unless you count the rear bumper as the correct position on the stop bar.
