Bike-Friendly Employer of the Year - SMUD
SMUD provides bike racks for customers, visitors and commuters at the entrances of each of its buildings, encouraging bicycling for commuting, errands, and work trips year-round. Currently 154 SMUD employees are bicycle commuters.
SMUD provides 138 bicycle lockers, assigned to individuals free of charge. Hot showers and clothing lockers are available at the on-site fitness center.
SMUD also encourages the use of bicycles for employees who read 595,000 electric meters each month. SMUD has participated in promoting Bike Month for more than 10 years.

Bicycling Advocate of the Year - Dr. Victoria Akins, Kaiser Point West
As a result of 2001 Bike To Work Day, Dr. Victoria Akins progressed from recreational bicycling to bike commuting and began working with local officials on better, safer bike ways through Point West. In 2004, her bicycle advocacy focused on better health for children through bicycling. She founded the Mustard Seed Spin, a 20 mile charity ride for kids, which last year included 550 student cyclists and raised $24,500 for the Mustard Seed School for homeless children.

Cyclist of the Year: Chuck Noller of Vision Service Plan
An avid cyclist, Chuck commutes by bike 30 miles each day, rain or shine. He is a member of VSP's bike team, Blood, Sweat and Gears, and frequently participates in charity rides. He is also VSP's Commute Coordinator and in 2008 published six transportation articles on the VSP Intranet, planned and conducted two transportation fairs, hosted an Earth Day celebration and hosted two bike clinics for VSP employees.

Student Cyclists of the Year: Mark and Luke Powers
Mark and Luke have been bicycling since they were infants going to day care. Today, at age 7 and 6, they are both competent bicyclist and ride to school, soccer practice and baseball games on a regular basis. Last year for Million Mike May, Mark logged 209 miles and Luke logged 199 miles.
